Anodized Titanium Flower Brooches
These are highlights from a series of flower brooches made from lightweight titanium. The iridescent colors are anodized- a controlled oxidation of the metal with optical properties that create the illusion of vivid color (when in fact no color is present)! I developed a technique for mapping the anodization level onto the 3D form, resulting in smooth color gradients that correspond directly to the geometry. These brooches are formed with hydraulic press molds, welded and seamlessly hand finished to create a celebration in sheet metal.
